Meka Whaitiri – RSA brings back Buck
Veterans Affairs Minister Meka Whaitiri is welcoming former All Black captain Sir Wayne ‘Buck’ Shelford’s election as new national president of the RSA.
She says she’s had a chance to meet the former navy physical training instructor and discuss the challenges facing the returned services clubs, which have a unique place in the hospitality and services sectors.
Minister Whaitiri says while the RSA is an independent organisation, the Government threw $2 million in the tin to compensate for it not being able to hold its fundraising poppy days during Covid.
She also thanked retiring RSA president B J Clark for the work he did during eight years in the role.
