Māori political commentator Shane Te Pou is hanging up his pundit shoes – including his spot as a Radio Waatea talkback host.
He’s been appointed chief executive of internet company Mega, and says his priority now has to be looking after its 180 and growing staff.
“I started there nine years ago with six of us. We’ve now built it up to one of the largest online privacy companies in the world with 270 million users. You can only do so much in life. This is a huge responsibility and I’m going to give away the political commentary, the media gig, and focus on my full time mahi,” he says.
Mr Te Pou, who has previously had high profit roles as a trade unionist and Labour Party activist, says he’d encourage any Maori who wants to get into political commentary to have a shot at talkback.
