Young Māori entrepreneur making her mark
The chief executive of the world’s largest poi manufacturer says winning the 2022 Young Māori Business Leader Award doesn’t get her out of schoolwork.
16-year-old Georgia Latu, says the tohu really belongs to her entire whanau who have backed her vision of Pōtiki Poi and helped it grow over the past four years.
She says the business is looking at launching a clothing line, and she has some ideas too about her own development.
“We always look to the future with Potiki Poi and there’s quite a lot of pathways open but I’ve always wanted to be a ta moko artist so as a pakeke I’d love to go through and become a ta moko artist,” Ms Latu says.
