Soraya Peke-Mason well prepared for MP role
There’s high praise for Parliament’s newest MP from a former party colleague.
Soraya Peke-Mason takes her Labour list seat today, replacing Speaker Trevor Mallard, who is off to serve as New Zealand’s ambassador in Dublin.
Former Labour and New Zealand First MP Shane Jones says she brings significant experience to the role.
“She has had a strong and prominent role in the relationship between Labour and the Ratana movement so a net positive I would have thought and I’m really happy for her. She’s been such a loyal servant both to her church and to Labour for a long time,” he says.
Mr Jones says Soraya Peke-Mason’s experience in local government will have prepared her for the mundane and monotonous aspects of parliament.
