Māori wardens’ role in Chlöe-Wayne show
More support for Auckland’s Māori Wardens could be coming after a walking meeting between new mayor Wayne Brown and Auckland Central MP Chlöe Swarbrick.
The pair walked to work together this morning via Karangahape Rd and then sat down to discuss ways to improve safety and vibrancy in the city centre.
Low hanging fruit suggested by the Green MP included support for Māori Wardens (including a city centre base at Myer’s Park), Heart of the City and the Auckland City Mission’s Street Guardians programme;
Improvements to public toilets;
A single-contact point for people experiencing homelessness or concerned about the homeless;
And providing night-time food options by removing barriers to food truck licences.
Mr Brown says he would will follow with the relevant agencies and officials today.
