Sharma jumps at shadows

Former Labour MP Gaurav Sharma has forced a by-election in his Hamilton East seat by resigning with immediate effect.
He says he intends to contest the by-election under the banner of a new centrist party.
Dr Sharma was expelled from the caucus after going public with allegations bullying in the party, and has been sitting as an independent.
He claims to have received inside information at the weekend that Labour planned to use the waka jumping law him.
“Next step is to remove me as a member of parliament but they want to do it at a time when it is six months or less from the general election which means there will not be a by-election because the government doesn’t want a by-election but they also don’t want me sitting at the back and asking all the questions of the Government,” Dr Sharma says.
Prime Minister and party leader Jacinda Ardern says there were no such plans.
