First hand views of prison for podcast
Justice reform group Just Speak wants people to think about what really goes on when people are arrested and imprisoned.
It’s released a five part podcast series from Popsock Media featuring the voices of Corrections and poiice staff, academics and people who have been sentenced prisoners.
The True Justice podcasts are presented by criminology student Tommy Doran, who spent time in prison for drug offences, and actor Ana Chaya.
Just Speak executive director Aphiphany Forward-Taua says it’s a rare chance to hear about the issues first hand.
“We hope this podcast will be an opportunity for them as individuals and also a part of a community to have discussions and reflect on what it is they as taxpayers are investing in. They’re paying for, as people will see through this podcast, some really concerning things and some things I would say are inhumane,” she says.
