Chief Executive Christine Brears of the Taumarunui Community Kokiri Trust, says having a mobile Hauora service will be a game changer for Māori living in rural communities like Maniapoto.
“Our people need to feel comfortable when seeking medical assistance. Many don’t have vehicles, and the cost of visiting a local doctor can be expensive. These are some of the barriers our people face” she said.
“We can now go to them, and provide a culturally responsive service, which can better serve our people of Maniapoto” says Christine Brears.
Riana Manual, Chief Executive of the newly established Māori Health Authority, who also attended today’s launch in Te Kuiti says, “these types of initiatives are exactly what our people need” and congratulated Christine and the Taumarunui Community Kōkiri Trust, for making a dream come true.
