Canada-Aotearoa indigenous pact signed

A new Indigenous Collaboration Arrangement between Aotearoa New Zealand and Canada will formalise the two governments working together to improve outcomes for indigenous peoples and enhance indigenous-to-indigenous relationships.
The arrangement was signed at parliament today by Māori Development Minister Willie Jackson and Canadian Minister of Indigenous Services, Patty Hajdu.
It builds on Minister Hajdu’s meeting in Ottawa last year with Associate Minister for Māori Development Nanaia Mahuta.
Mr Jackson says it will promote and facilitate the economic, social, cultural, and environmental advancements of indigenous peoples through relationship development, improved knowledge sharing, and stronger collaboration.
