Team tautoko as athletes go for gold

Manakitanga and whanaungatanga are the vibes at this year’s Commonwealth Games 2022.
That’s the word from reporter Jodi Ihaka from TVNZ’s Marae programme who is in Birmingham covering the event.
New Zealand has so far won 24 medals – 13 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze – and dominated the cycling and swimming events to secure a third overall ranking.
Ms Ihaka says since arriving in England, she’s noticed a strong bond between athletes.
“Everybody has been saying ‘got your back,’ ‘we’re here to support you,’ great job.’ They all seem to be quite able to give each other that tautoko because not all families can be here. There’s certainly a great big vibe of manaakitanga,” she says.
