Matariki not for sale

A Māori cultural consultant is asking businesses to avoid disrespectful marketing ploys linked to the Matariki public holiday.
Tātou chief executive Skye Kimura says although there is no law forbidding Matariki advertising, businesses should act responsibly.
“It’s a time we must remember, reflect, reset and think about the last year, think about the new year, what it means for us. For too long people have been advocating for this time, that I definitely do not want to see a Matariki Big Mac special at McDonalds this Friday,” she says.
