Paula Whetu Jones says it’s been a long journey to get Becoming Whina to the big screen.
She says the audience reaction at last week’s premiere, shows the care taken in getting the production right was worth the extra effort.
“We used Whina’s whānau in the film, making the film, around the film. We had her clothes. We had her jewellery. She was totally there with use every step of the way,” Jones says.
Becoming Whina goes on general release on Thursday.
