Pāti Māori puts table test on Budget
Māori Party co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer says she will measure today’s Budget based on what lands on the table of Māori whānau.
She says her response to pre-Budget announcements such as the climate change commitment has been lukewarm.
The party wants to see higher taxes on the rich, the removal of GST from kai and action to break up the supermarket duopoly, more state housing, a capital gains tax and a vacant homes tax.
“We really need to see what is going to land on our whānau tables. We are overall the spin and overall the empathy and promises made by Labour and being called bottom feeders by National. We just need to see what is going to east the pain of our whānau,”Ms Ngarewa-Packer says.
