Fair pay deal struck for health clerks
District Health Boards and the Public Service Association have agreed to a pay equity settlement covering more than 10,000 administration workers.
DHB spokesperson Jim Green says 90 per cent of the people in the key administration and clerical roles are women, and their work has been historically undervalued.
The new pay system provides a standard structure for more than 1500 roles across 20 DHBs with previously widely variable rates.
Increases will range from 40 per cent for a ward clerk in the South Island, from $48,740 to $68,340 to 13 per cent for a North Island health records clerk now getting $50,000.
Each person covered will also receive a $2500 pro-rated lump sum recognising the delay since the interim pay adjustment of 30 November 2020.
Mr Green says pay equity settlements for Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health are expected to be completed within the next 12 months.
Meanwhile, allied health workers are now considering their next steps after walking off the job for 24 hours yesterday to try to get action on their stalled collective agreement.
