First director for Wairau Māori Art Gallery
Larissa McMillan has been appointed the first director of the new Wairau Māori Art Gallery at Whāngārei’s Hundertwasser Art Centre.
Trust chair Elizabeth Ellis says her appointment will allow the gallery to develop its work promoting Māori artists, Māori curators, and Māori culture through its exhibitions education programme.
Ms McMillan, from Ngāpuhi, has been the gallery’s marketing manager.
She’s also an artist and writer, with a bachelor’s degree in design and visual communications from Massey University and a certificate in film and television from the Wellington Film School.
Before moving back to Whāngārei in 2020 she ran the Green Party’s cocal media strategy, and she has also worked as a communications coordinator for the Cancer Society.
