Missing Māori medal hunt produces another 500 names
A lawyer chasing up missing war medals has identified another 500 Māori Battalion soldiers who never collected their tohu for service in World War 2.
David Stone from Te Mata Law has made it his mission to identify the owners of unclaimed medals and released his first list of 134 names last year.
Living descendants of some of those soldiers received the medals in a ceremony last year, and the army plans to hold more such events.
Descendants wanting to apply for the unclaimed medals must fill out the New Zealand Military Medals application form showing their link to the soldier through a birth, death and/or marriage certificate.
