The winner of a lifetime achievement award for contributions to Māori arts and culture says he stood on the shoulders of giants.
Teacher, artist, poet and broadcaster Haare Williams was given Ngā Tohu ā Tā Kingi Ihaka at the online Te Waka Toi Awards on Saturday
The 87-year old paid tribute to some of those who he was privileged to work with.
“Wiremu Parker, Wiremu Kerekere, Henare Te Ua and all the people who are now following in their footsteps, so this tohu is really a tribute to the excellence of those people,” Dr Williams says.
