Cold start expected for tourism dollar
The head of one of Rotorua’s leading iwi-owned attractions expects a slow recovery once Australian tourists are welcomed back over the border.
Adam Hughes from Waimangu Volcanic Valley says that for the next few months most of the visitors will be heading for the ski slopes of Ruapehu or Te Waipounamu.
“We usually have a lull in winter anyway so we will get that trickle and it will be good and anything we don’t have now is totally on top of what we have so we’re so excited but it will be a slow start because the ski experiences and the winter experiences pick up first,” he says.
