Rock stars get Tokomaru bridge up

The bridge at Tokomaru Bay damaged by floods two weeks ago has been restored 11 days ahead of schedule.
Transport Minister Michael Wood, who attended Saturday’s reopening ceremony for Mangahauini Bridge, says crews put moved more than 4000 tonnes of rock to form the base for the new bridge support and reinstate the approach.
The floods washed out an abutment and left a 16-metre gap in the roadway.
Ngāti Porou identity Bailey Mackey says it’s an example of what increased local procurement can do, with Blackbee Contractors stepping up to the job.
