Dame June Jackson a towering presence in community
Auckland Mayor Phil Goff says Kahurangi Dame June Jackson will be missed by everyone who knew her and worked with her.
The former Manukau Urban Māori Authority head died yesterday aged 82.
Mayor Goff says despite being small in stature she was a towering totara in the forest of Tane, and he treasures their long association.
“You grow up and June’s there and she’s a presence in the community and she oversaw such enormous changes. The work she did for Māori in Manukau, in particular, is just outstanding,” he says.
Dame Temuranga ‘June’ Batley Jackson is lying in honour at Ngā Whare Waatea Marae until her nehu on Friday, with Covid protocols in force for the tangi.
