Union gives ground on health strike
The PSA organiser for 10,000 allied health workers says the union had already agreed not to go on strike in Tāmaki Makaurau before an injunction was granted blocking a national strike.
Will Matthews says the request came from the three Auckland district health boards, who said they could not guarantee public safety during a strike.
“Once again health workers have shown they are willing to put the interests of New Zealanders first and DHBs have shown they put their own interests first,” he says.
Mr Matthews says if the DHBs don’t come to next week’s facilitation with a better offer than the current one of under 2 per cent, the workers will look at other options for industrial action in their quest for fair pay and equal treatment.
