Mana motuhake in mayoral plan

Auckland mayoral candidate Fa’anānā Efeso Collins says the united city he wants to build will have room for self-determination for Māori and Pasifika.
The south Auckland councillor has been endorsed by the Labour Party for the super city’s top job.
He says the wealthy and poorer parts of the city aren’t working well together, and he will try to bridge the gap through straight talking about things like indigenous rights – which can make some people uncomfortable.
“As a person who was raised in Samoa and understands indigeneity really well, my job is to ensure we come to a basic understanding of how we can respect, understand and enable indigenous people to seek self-determination and I think that is something we can do. We’re just got to make the time to talk to one another,” Mr Collins says.
