A dedicated Māori unit within Kainga Ora is pushing the state housing developer to build more homes that are suitable for Māori needs
Te Kurutao Northern Regional Manager Tupara Morrison says the unit is pushing for greater numbers of safe and affordable homes to be built for Māori.
It is involved in the design process, arguing for things such as with larger units that account for inter-generational living.
“Te Kuratao is very active in ensuring that our development teams present the development plans they have, what those designs are, what those typologies are, and getting meaningful input from Māori about what their needs are from their perspective,” Mr Morrison says.
Te Kurutao is also developing relationships with iwi and Māori entities and feeding that into the way Kainga Ora works.
