Te Ahurei Toi o Tāmaki loses live shows
The Auckland Arts Festival Te Ahurei Toi o Tāmaki has cancelled all live shows because of Covid settings.
Māori lead Ataahua Papa says planned visual art exhibitions will be held online and two free outdoor installations will go ahead.
She says it’s the third year the festival has been disrupted by the pandemic, which puts a huge strain on its finances.
Performers will still be paid and the festival is asking the Ministry for Culture and Heritage’s Arts and Culture Event Support Scheme for help.
“The Ministry is working hard to make it work in all the festivals because it’s not just us – WOMAD’s just cancelled, the Wellington New Zealand Festival of the Arts, they’ve cancelled, Splore’s cancelled as well so there’s a lot of these big festivals and organisations going to the ministry for help,” Ms Papa says.
