Anti-vaxers over-egg protest
Anti-vaccine mandate protesters are upsetting Wellingtonians with their own mandates.
Hundreds of protesters from around the country descended on the capital yesterday, blocking traffic and making noise.
Many of them camped outside parliament overnight and said they’ll stay until Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
Māori Language Commission chief executive Ngahiwi Apanui says his daughter was verbally abused, had eggs thrown at her when she went out – masked – to buy her lunch yesterday.
“There seems to be a lot of anger about the mandates and all the rest of it but my daughter is not responsible for those mandates and neither is anybody else in the community. It’s basically a government decision and the reason she is wearing a mask is because, like most of us, she wants to keep herself and others safe, not because of a government directive, and that is a choice she has and we all have, as well as all those who choose not to wear a mask,” he says.
Mr Apanui says he drove his daughter to work today to ensure her safety.
