Extra effort needed on Māori vax gap

The Green Party wants the Government to do more to boost the Māori vaccination rate to over 90 per cent.
The overall full vaccine rate hit the 90 per cent milestone yesterday, but Māori are lagging 14 per cent behind at 76 per cent fully vaccinated and 86 per cent first dose.
Greens Covid-19 response spokesperson Elizabeth Kerekere says the rate is considerably lower in rural areas and particularly among younger Māori.
She also wants the rollout of the vaccine for 5 to 11-year-olds to give priority to Māori and Pasifika providers, now MedSafe had provisionally approved the vaccine for that age group.
