Dark Sky Project takes Māori tourism tohu


It’s dark times for the tourism industry, so it may be fitting the Dark Sky Project took away He Kai Kei Aku Ringa Māori Tourism tohu at this year’s New Zealand Tourist Awards.
The Takapō-based venture, which is a partnership with Ngāi Tahu Tourism, was celebrated as a fantastic project which truly delivers the Māori message and embraces everything the tourism industry is about.
Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari won the Community Engagement Award, with judges saying its community engagement programme could become a legacy initiative for the wider community and Aotearoa.
Rotorua’s Redwoods Treewalk & Nightlights won the Visitor Experience Award.
