Kia Aroha College sticks with online learning
The board of trustees of Kia Aroha College has bucked orders and won’t reopen the south Auckland school for senior students.
Principal Hayley Milne says there are a high number of Covid-19 locations of interest in its catchment around Clover Park and Flat Bush, and not many of its students are vaccinated.
It also found the Education Ministry’s edict confusing and contradictory.
“The confusing messages about staff meetings should be discouraged, we can’t go to tangi, we can’t attend church services, those are things that are important to us as a community, but we are going to have a whole group of young people together in a classroom – it just doesn’t make sense,” Ms Milne says.
