All night session as Māori vax numbers rise
It’s never too late to vaccinate – 3am tomorrow morning is just fine for Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei.
The iwi and Tāmaki Vaccination are hosting an all night vaccination event at the centre in Morrin Rd, St Johns.
The neighbouring Countdown supermarket has supplied sausages for a sizzle, and there’s DJs and entertainment until 9pm, with the jabs continuing until 6.30 AM Saturday.
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Whai Maia director and Auckland DHB deputy chair Tama Davis says they can help with transport, and there’s also the government’s free taxi service available.
“A lot of our Māori and Pasifika whānau work in shift work and some of our essential workers, their time off is during the evenings so we thought we will be as accessible as possible, We are fully prepared and it is a way of letting our community know we are willing to do what it takes,” he says.
The event is also a chance to tell whānau about some of the other support available to them at this time.
There were 44 new cases of Covid-19 in the community today.
Forty one of the cases are in Auckland and three in Waikato.
Thirty two of the 44 cases including the three Waikato cases have been linked to earlier cases.
There were 82,303 doses of vaccine administered yesterday, the highest daily figure since September 3, and a record high of 10,145 doses administered to Māori.
