Vaccine God’s work says Māori health leader
A Waikato Māori health leader says the weekend’s anti-lockdown protests represent a massive failure on leadership at a time Māori need to get the message to be vaccinated.
Lady Tureiti Moxon says a case in Kirikiriroa and a linked case in Whāingaroa/Raglan are of great concern because they are among a large whānau.
She says there are still too many Māori unvaccinated, and having leaders like the Destiny Church’s Brian Tamaki drawing 2000 people to the Auckland Domain in downright irresponsible.
“A lot of church people think God is going to save them. Well God is saving them. He sent the vaccination and we got it and it’s here and yet we’re ignoring it,” Lady Moxon says.
Māori providers like her Te Kōhao Health are doing a huge amount with limited and sporadic funding, and she thinks it’s time now for some targeted campaigns to get Māori vaccinated.
There are 29 new community cases of Covid-19 reported in New Zealand today, including the Hamilton case announced yesterday.
So far 21 cases have been linked to existing cases.
