Tomorow People Rise Up today for Waiata Anthems
A new track by chart topping band Tomorrow People has been included in this year's installment of Waiata Anthems.
Twenty seven waiata were relased today to join the two songs already released: 'Pepeha' by SIX60 and ‘Ko Te Hīnātoretanga’ by Hollie Smith and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
The Wellington based band, who already have four reo Māori waiata under their belts, joined 27 other kaiwaiata including Troy Kingi, Stan Walker, Six60 to build on the success of the original album with their trilingual song – Rise Up.
Member Avina Kelekolio says for the song Rise Up, producer Hinewehi Mohi encouraged the band to show its diversity by incorporating English, Māori, and Samoan lyrics.
He says the band is honoured to be involved in the project.
"It was nerve wracking as well. It's always hard to live up to what it represents. Waiata Anthems is sort of the pinnacle so it was about trying to reach that and do it justice," Kelekolio says.
All the Waiata Anthems can be found on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon Music, Tidal and more, as well as through the Waiata Anthems website.
