Carrington cloaked in gold
New medals and new titles for Olympic great Lisa Carrington.
Yesterday in Tokyo the kayaker won gold in the K1 200m final, and just over an hour later she was back on the podium with crewmate Caitlin Regal to collect gold for the women's canoe sprint K2 500m final.
That brings her total haul over three Olympics to five medals, four of them gold.
Māori Sports Awards organiser Dick Garrett says she’s all class.
"You can even add to her name the kahurangi Lisa Carrington – the mantle of what she achieves on and off the waters, an outstanding ambassador for her iwi Te Aitanga a Māhaki and Ngāti Porou, but all New Zealanders," he says.
Lisa Carrington has matched the medal total of fellow kayaker Ian Ferguson from Ngāti Maniapoto – and she can draw ahead if she wins in the K1 500 or the K4 500 with Regal, Alicia Hoskin and Teneale Hatton.
