Waiheke marina row heads to court

Opponents of a marina on Waiheke are in the High Court today seeking an injunction aimed at stopping construction until the developer sets out how it will protect wildlife and biodiversity in Pūtiki Bay.
Kaiwai Rhind from Ngā Uri O Ngāti Pāoa says the Kennedy Point marina will displace a colony of kororā or little blue penguins and affect other marine life.
"Just a few days ago we had dolphins that came into the bay. He tohu anō tēnā. This is their kainga as well, they are part of the biodiversity," she says.
Kaiwai Rhind hopes the hearing will give mātauranga Māori the consideration it deserves.
