Child mental health programme expanded

Mana Ake children’s mental wellbeing services will be extended to five more District Health Board areas, including Northland, Counties Manukau, Bay of Plenty, Lakes and West Coast.
Announcing the move this morning while visiting Homai School in Counties Manukau, Health Minister Andrew Little said since 2018 more than 7000 children in Canterbury and Kaikōura have benefited from Mana Ake services.
He said eventually every primary and intermediate-aged school child in Aotearoa will have access to mental health and wellbeing support services.
The programme provides mental health and wellbeing support for children in primary school years 1-8.
With the Mana Ake model as a base, DHBs and local communities can co-design services for their areas.
It will be jointly funded through the heath and education votes
