The Principals Federation is telling members to defy Education Ministry orders and refuse to take violent children who have already been kicked out of other schools.

President Perry Rush says such children need therapeutic intervention before they get back into the classroom.

He says the ministry needs to ensure schools are properly supported and resourced.

"It's absolutely critical the system responds quickly to try to generate innovative solutions to be better. We can do this. We are an amazing country. We have to be brave and we have to commit to action," Mr Rush says.

He's inundated with stories of traumatised children and their behaviour at school.
