Community mental health services for rangatahi
New youth-specific primary mental health and addiction services will kick off over the next few weeks as part of a new $10 million injection of funds into the sector.
The services will be available in Bay of Plenty, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington, Kāpiti Coast, Hutt Valley and Canterbury, with dedicated kaupapa Māori services also coming in the next few months.
Health Minister Andrew Little says the transition into adulthood is a time of highest risk for the onset of mental health problems and psychological distress.
He says it’s important young people have a broad range of youth-friendly support they can access.
The services will be offered in a range of locations including youth one-stop shops and community centres.
