Rose Pere will have lasting influence

The final farewells are being said today to educator and tohunga Rangimarie Turuki Arikirangi Rose Pere.
The Tūhoe, Ngāti Ruapani and Ngāti Kahungunu tohunga died on Sunday surrounded by whānau.
She will be buried today at Rongopai Marae, in Waituhi just outside of Gisborne alongside her beloved husband Joseph Pere.
Māori Development Minister Willie Jackson says Māoridom has lost a revered spiritual leader.
He says she embodied Mana Wahine and an unwavering commitment to Te Ao Māori, and she made her influence felt within education from Kōhanga Reo through to tertiary level with her books Ako and Te Wheke.
