Tribal trust to share HQ with town council
After a delay because of COVID-19 restrictions, work has resumed on planning a multi-purpose community hub in Raetihi that will house not just Ruapehu District Council services but the local treaty settlement trust.
The council has called for submissions on what sort of facilities, services and functions the centre should include.
Uenuku Trust chair Aiden Gilbert says it's an opportunity to work together in a partnership that includes the whole community.
"It's been a long time accumulation of trying to build relationships with our local body communities. This provided an opportunity for that. Even though it's pre-settlement, it hasn't stopped us trying to build relationships with our council and our community," he says.
