Well meaning but wrong.
That’s Green’s co-leader Marama Davidson’s take on a call by Race Relations Commissioner Meng Foon for iwi to take over running prisons.
Ms Davidson says the focus needs to be on ending the system of mass incarceration of Māori and systemic racism in the justice system.
She says it's good Mr Foon is looking for ways to return power to Māori.
"That is not really returning power to Māori. It is more about asking Māori to replicate what is already a very broken system and among the Māori community, the call should maintain more of a focus on restorative justice and looking at the drivers of crime," Ms Davidson says.
