Ousted National Party list MP Jo Hayes has a parachute.
Fresh from flying the party flag in Mana where she fell 13,000 votes short, she has been appointed general manager for her iwi.
Rangitāne Tū Mai Rā Trust Board chair Jason Kerehi says her task is to continue to bring the iwi together and lift its potential.
He says Ms Hayes has a strong connection to both Wairarapa and Tamaki Nui ā Rua.
As a business consultant before entering parliament in 2014 she had extensive experience working with iwi in the health and tertiary education sectors.
