Auckland Council has adopted an Outcomes for Māori Framework, five years after a treaty audit recommended such a framework be an urgent priority.

A review of Council Controlled Organisations released last week also asked for a framework so CCOs know what is expected of them.

Councillor Angela Dalton, who heads the Māori portfolio, says the CCO Review spelled out again how the council was not delivering for Māori.

"This framework must be embedded within our CCOS. It must be embedded within the job descriptions of our chief executives. A lot of work to do in the CCO Review to ensure that happens and I will chair the workshops of the review so I have an opportunity to ensure we can get these delivered on," she says.

Angela Dalton says the framework will help drive initiatives such as support for Māori business and marae development.
