Tertiary stars recognised
A record five teachers have been recognised in the kaupapa Māori category of this year’s Tertiary Teaching Excellence Award.
They are Dr Awanui Te Huia from Ngāti Maniapoto, a senior lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington’s Te Kawa a Māui (School of Māori Studies);
Associate Professor Anne-Marie Jackson, the co-leader at the University of Otago’s Te Koronga, centre of excellence for Māori graduate research and indigenous science;
Kay-Lee Jones from the University of Canterbury;
Dr Rhys Jones, a senior lecturer in the University of Auckland Medical School’s Te Kupenga Hauora Māori unit;
And Yo Heta-Lensen, who is described as a mainstay in the advocacy of mātauranga Māori at Unitec.
