LED bulb trial warms Kaitaia hearts

That's the word from the Salvation Army, which has partnered with the Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority to bring energy-efficient lightbulbs to 2000 Kaitaia homes.
The households will get a voucher for up to five LED bulbs that use up to 85 per cent less electricity than traditional bulbs and save up to $300 over their life.
Community ministries director Jono Bell says many whānau miss out on essentials because of the cost of keeping their homes warm during the winter months.
"Even in this time of COVID recovery where there is hardship, everything we can do to support this poor community, every bit of savings is going to make a difference for households," he says.
The vouchers can be redeemed between the August 17 to 22 at the Salvation Army's Commerce St office in Kaitaia.
