Matatini postponement only responsible decision

A leading Waihīrere member says Te Matatini is being responsible by postponing the national kapa haka championship.
The board announced yesterday the finals in Tāmaki Makaurau will be held in February 2022, and the biennial calendar will be reset from that date.
Willie Te Aho says when COVID-19 was escalating back in March, he had the job of telling schools the secondary schools kapa haka would also be postponed to June 2022.
"That was taken with great respect because our people's safety is number one and with February not too far away and uncertainty about the control of people coming in and out of our borders with America's Cup and other initiatives happening, I think it is a safe and responsible decision that Te Matatini has made," he says.
