Petition calls for Dome Valley dump to be dumped
Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whātua has created an action station petition to oppose the consent application for the proposed Dome Valley Landfill.
It says the mega-landfill could affect the waters that flow to the Hoteo River and Kaipara Moana, which is the traditional food basket of the iwi.
The petition asks Auckland Council to halt all discussions with Waste Management NZ, and as a Treaty partner provide Iwi with the opportunity to co-create a partnership that will assist our communities to manage waste in a way that puts Papatūānuku and the community at the centre of decision making.
Ngati Whatua intends to present the petition to Auckland Mayor Phil Goff after a hikoi up Queen St on Friday week, July 17.
