Matariki pictures new beginning for country

Foxton’s Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom gallery and library has reopened with a deep space photo exhibition including a huge image of the Matariki star cluster.
It’s by Himatangi resident and Massey University philosophy lecturer Stephen Chadwick, whose high-tech digital images of the stars and beyond have an international audience.
He says digital photographs show a universe that is impossible to see with the naked eye or even an old-fashioned telescope.
Dr Chadwick says this year the Maori new year coincides with new beginnings for the entire country, so the exhibition is fitting.
