Science challenge for Mateparae

Former governor general Sir Jerry Mateparae has been appointed the next chair of the Healthier Lives – He Oranga Hauora National Science Challenge.
Sir Jerry, who has recently returned from serving as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, will also chair the challenge’s Kāhui Māori.
Challenge director Jim Mann says that co-governance group, established by outgoing director Dr Jenny McMahon, has brought real gains in understanding.
Sir Jerry says he has been keeping track of the work done by Dr McMahon and Professor Mann to achieve healthier lives for New Zealanders, especially work done to prevent or treat those suffering from one of the country’s four main non-communicable diseases.
