Hayes attacks lack of plan

National’s Māori Affairs spokesperson says Budget 2020 has a lot of money but no plan.
The Budget was pulled together over the past couple of months to give the Government flexibility to respond to the economic shock of COVID-19, with some items on its long term wish list put the side and $20 billion pencilled in for contingencies.
Jo Hayes says that’s not good enough, and she wanted to see more detail in areas like the $136 million in new money for whānau ora.
"This is a Budget that's got lots of money for everybody, it's going to throw us into a deep recession, it's going to let our mokopuna end up paying for this particular Budget. They're looking at $80,000 per head. That's the legacy the Government will leave our mokopuna and is that what we want? I don't think so. National's got a better way of doing that. We know how the economy responds and we know how to actually implement our plans so our mokopuna can live a debt-free life," she says.
