Smith welcomes police powers to enforce lockdown rules
The National Iwi Chairs Forum’s Pandemic Response Group is welcoming clarification of the rules for the alert level four lockdown.
Chair Mike Smith says people have been coming up with their own interpretation of what forms of recreational activities were acceptable in ways.
This led to large numbers of people gathering in urban areas at popular exercise hotspots like outdoor basketball courts and jogging paths.
Iwi are also reporting late-night travel under cover of dark, particularly in tourist regions.
Mr Smith says the issuing of the 701F notice under the Health Act 1956 makes means the police can take greater action to ensure compliance.
