Schools scramble to get lessons online
Schools are assessing how they can teach their tamariki digitally if the Covid-19 coronavirus lock-down has to be extended.
Whetu Cormick, the immediate past president of the Principal’s Federation, says because the school holidays was brought forward it’s not an issue for the next two weeks, but after that, it’s important some study resumes.
He says the profession sensed a lock-down might come, so started making preparations.
"We know that most of our schools are going to be ready to do this. The Ministry of Education will be working very hard over the coming weeks to ensure there is digital access for those communities who may not have internet access. In the background I think there will be companies working quickly to enable this to happen," he says.
Whetu Cormack says the lockdown will highlight economic differences between whānau, which need to be addressed to ensure those children do not miss out.
